Disposition:
Because the Doberman Pinscher was bred to be a guard dog, it is essential that they are socialized from a very early age to avoid over-guarding. Dobermans must also be well-trained – well-trained and well-socialized Dobermans are the safest and happiest type. All members of the family should know how to treat the dog to remain higher than the dog in the pack because Dobermans can become pushy if they feel they are higher in the pack class than someone else.
Activity Level:
Dobermans are very energetic and need a lot of exercise. For this reason they would not do well in an apartment, unless it was large and had a large backyard/garden for the dog to spend time in. This being said, Dobermans must not be left outdoors for long periods of time in the winter as they are not able to stand it.
